Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of Christ’s Atonement and sacrifice. This Easter and conference weekend I wanted to express my gratitude for Him. I read a quote once that said “He came to pay a debt He did not owe, because we owed a debt we could not pay.” We couldn't atone for our own sins, we needed someone who was without sin to intervene on our behalf. Because Christ loves us so much and was so humble and willing to do His Father's will, he mercifully intervened for us. His perfect character was required for performing the atonement. Elder Neal A. Maxwell said, “All humanity hung on the hinge of Christ’s character." Christ was the only one capable of atoning for our sins. Because of His merits, mercy and grace, we can dwell in God's presence again. Only Christ, with his perfect goodness and sinless life accompanied with his divine identity as the Son of God, could accomplish the task His Father had given Him. Because of his divine intercession, we can repent. We can dwell in God’s presence again. Because
of Christ, we can change, because of Him no goodbyes last forever, because of Him everyday is a new day. Because of Him we can have true peace and joy. Because of Him we will never be alone, because of Him we have a living prophet on the earth today. Because of Him we can be with our families forever. Because of Him our lives have meaning. Elder Holland said, “Because Jesus walked such a long, lonely road utterly alone, we do not have to.” He understands us perfectly and is always there for us. He knows every worry, every pain, every sorrow, every fear. He also knows every joy and every success, he knows our hopes and desires. C.S Lewis said: "He died not for men, but for each man. If each man had been the only man made, He would have done no less." Realizing this makes the atonement so personal for each of us. I am so grateful for Christ and his atoning sacrifice, for His peace and love.
